Anionic (negatively charged) surfactants are often used because of their great foaming properties, but Glucoside (which is non-ionic, with no charge) is proven to be particularly gentle on the skin.

Can I not just use soap and water to wash my face?

Sebum (the oily substance that your skin produces naturally to stop it drying out) is not water soluble and so will not be removed by washing your face with water alone.
Does this cleanser remove stubborn mascara or waterproof eye make-up?
